It’s a check-in, guys, as I have been busy with a J-O-B here in Kingston. But we’re back in the saddle next Friday with Lady Justice Brewing!
Oh man, today’s episode comes to you with a bit of backstory!
I interviewed Laurie two weeks ago (!!) and learned afterwards that my recording program didn’t, uh, record it. And since Laurie has a lot on her plate these days, it took a while to reschedule and record. It happened and then I learned that my recording program didn’t record again (I know, I know, I am looking for a new option), but I did have my phone with me, so here we are.
I lament you can’t listen to the first five minutes, but I hope the rest of our conversation will make up for that. It’s decent audio, if a little echoey. Laurie Porter is one of the owners of Smog City Brewing, and frankly, I am just glad she’s on the show!
Check out their revamped website, their really cool label art, and if you have been there, tell me what drank! Finally, say hi on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Call the Harpy Hour Hotline: 1-833-85-HARPY. Review and rate the show, if you’re so inclined.
Let’s reverse the usual March axiom: In like a lion, out like a lamb.
Today you get lamb-like (heh) me giving you some background about why there hasn’t been any episodes for two Fridays, as well as updating you on what is going on for the next two months. The lion part will be a month of new episodes with rad guests, and maybe a new unrelated micro-podcast about reading about being your best self…and hoping your future best self will cooperate. It always comes back to beer, though.
The 50 States Beer Project heads to Colorado next. Know of someone to interview there? Call the Harpy Hour Hotline: 1-833-85-HARPY.
Guys, rate, review, and recommend the show as much as possible. It’s helpful for potential guests as well as charting to get more ears. I absolutely appreciate it like heck. It may well lead to me visiting your town!
I launched my beer consulting/educating business here in Kingston. Check out my new website for it.
Today’s guest, Emily Bennett, traveled to over 300 craft breweries in 2017 in her home state of Michigan. That, my friends, defines Living the Dream. (Well, it does for me, I can’t speak for you.)
I talk to Emily about how her plan came to fruition, as well as some of the best beers tasted on her epic adventure. Remember: Michigan is not a small state so this was no casual undertaking. Read about her adventures on her blog: Mitten Beer Girl, which includes a map of where she went.
Follow Harpy Hour on Twitter, Facebook (which I really need to do something more with, so if you have suggestions, holler at me), and Instagram. Call the Harpy Hour Hotline: 1-833-85-HARPY, or 1-833-854-2779. That number is toll-free in the US and Canada. If you call in, I assume you want to be on the show; if not, make that clear in your message.
If, like me, you gravitate towards French and Belgian-style beers, this episode is for you.
(Well, they’re all for you, regardless of your beer preference. But you know what I mean. I hope.)
Cyrena Nouzille is the owner of Ladyface Ale Companie. Since 2009, they’ve been serving up casual yet classic French fare as well as making award-winning beers. They just celebrated their 8th Anniversary so count me lucky to have been able to spoken with Cyrena during such a busy time!
You can find Harpy Hour on social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. Call the Harpy Hour Hotline if you have a hot beer tip to share or a guest I should talk to: 1-833-85-HARPY. Or, 1-833-854-2779. Review, rate, and recommend to anyone who will stand still enough to listen. See you next week, my lovelies!
This week on Harpy Hour I talk with Regan Long of Local Brewing Company based in San Francisco.
Regan has quite an impressive CV for a brewmaster–degrees in Oceanography and Physics!–but her passion for making the best beer for your pleasure won out over all the other cool stuff she knows. Go have a listen and plan your trip to head to SF for their Beer Week. Believe me, I am tempted to do that!
Leave a rating and review wherever you listen to podcasts. The show grows this way and it allows me to keep booking amazing guests!
Sometimes I get so myopic in talking with women who work in breweries that I forget the media side of beer! (Mea culpa.)
But not today, my friends. This episode highlights one of the coolest beer bloggers/social media mavens out there. I’m talking about Chalonda White, the titular AfroBeerChick. Not only is her blog one of the most stylish I’ve ever seen, it’s also engaging and honest.
I’m so glad she’s the guest this week. I need to prioritize Chicago on my beer travels list. Especially so I get out to 18th Street Brewery, makers of her desert island beer. Follow her everywhere online, folks.
Harpy Hour is available on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, and Google Play. If Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook is your thing, the show is there, too. Call the Harpy Hour Hotline if you have something to say: 1-833-85-HARPY, or 1-833-854-2779.
Next week’s guest in Regan Long of Local Brewing Company. See you then!
And here we are in the second week of a New Year!
First of all, thanks for being patient while I sorted out behind the scenes tech stuff here at the podcast. A problem occurred with our hosting so I spent Christmas figuring it out. But huzzah, it is done!
This also caused me to delay a great interview that I bring to you now. Erin Broadfoot is one half of the partnership that forms Little Beasts Brewing Company. They brew some pretty tasty beers; I was lucky to talk with Erin before Christmas. I can’t wait for you to hear it!
Another request that if you could rate and review the show on Stitcher, Apple Podcasts, and Google Play., I would appreciate it. Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, especially if you like adorable cat pics (who doesn’t?). Say hi by calling the Harpy Hour Hotline at 1-833-854-2779, or 1-833-85-HARPY. It’s toll free in the US and Canada!
California is the place to be next week so see you then!
Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a lovely holiday time and drank some gorgeous beers. (Psst…you can tell me about them if you can 1-833-85-HARPY. Just sayin’.)
Because this is the first episode of 2018, I’m stepping outside of my adult beverage comfort zone and talking cider with Dana Bushouse of Crooked City Cider. Located in Oakland, California, Crooked City aims to make ciders that will blow you out of the water with their exquisite taste and attention to detail. And if you go to their website and read their cider list, I guarantee you will be very very thirsty.
What are some of your favourite ciders? What are some cideries you love where you are? Same as above, call and let me know!
In conclusion, go have a listen. Heck, if you’ve visited Crooked City, I can’t wait to hear what you drank. Seems like maybe I should make 2018 the year I explore cider!
Finally, thanks to everyone who made 2017 a great year for the podcast. You are all wonderful.
Libsyn’s WordPress plugin and support seems to be a flaming pile of garbage, so our fingers are crossed that this actually gets out after a full week of no help from the company we pay to host this.
I’m chatting with Macie Fellows of Blue Canoe Brewing Company this week. Blue Canoe resides in Little Rock, the state capital of Arkansas. (I still really want one of those pint glasses!)
Follow the show on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. You can call the Harpy Hour Hotline anytime at 1-833-85-HARPY (1-833-854-2779). Additionally, the Christmas Beer Advent Calendar arrives soon! A few friends and I tackle the madness on Facebook Live soon. Stay tuned!
Look forward to Harpy Hour on a different platform starting in 2018!
